GALILEE
OCTOBER - LEAVES GALILEE
| JOHN 7 2Now the Jews' feast of tents was at hand. 3His brothers therefore said to him, depart from here, and go into Judea, that your disciples also may see the works that you do. 4For there is no man who does any thing in secret, and he himself seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, show yourself to the world. 5For his brothers did not believe in him. 6Then Jesus said to them, My time is not yet come: but your time is always ready. 7The world cannot hate you; but it hates me, because I testify of it, that its works are evil. 8Go up to this feast: I am not going up yet to this feast; for my time is not yet fully come. 9When he had said these words to them, he abode still in Galilee. 10But when his brothers were gone up, then he also went up to the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret. |

THE LAST FEAST OF THE TENTS
Officers fail to arrest the Lord Jesus
| JOHN 7 11Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he? 12And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, No; but he deceives the people. 13But no man spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews.

The woman caught in adultery
| JOHN 8 2And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him; and he sat down, and taught them. 3And the scribes and Pharisees brought to him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, 4They said to him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. 5Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what do you say? 6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he did not hear them. 7So when they continued asking him, he lifted himself up, and said to them, He who is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. 8And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. 9And those who heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even to the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. 10When Jesus had lifted himself up, and saw no one but the woman, he said to her, Woman, where are your accusers? has no man condemned you? 11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said to her, Neither do I condemn you: go, and sin no more. |
I am the light of the World. Before Abraham was I AM
| JOHN 8 12Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, I am the light of the world: he who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. 13The Pharisees therefore said to him, You bear record of yourself; your record is not true. 14Jesus answered and said to them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know where I came from, and where I go; but you cannot tell where I came from, and where I go. 15You judge after the flesh; I judge no man. 16And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father who sent me. 17 It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true. 18I am one who bears witness of myself, and the Father who sent me bears witness of me. 19Then they said to him, Where is your Father? Jesus answered, You neither know me, nor my Father: if you had known me, you would have known my Father also. 20These words Jesus spoke in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.

YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT MANNER OF SPIRIT YOU ARE OF
| LUKE 9 51And it came to pass, when the time came that he should be received up, he steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem, 52And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him. 53And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem. 54And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, will you that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elijah did? 55But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, *You do not know what manner of spirit you are of*. 56For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village. [*Though omitted in some later manuscripts, this statement is in 2nd/3rd century Syriac manuscripts, and Tatian's 2nd century 'Diatessaron']

VIA SAMARIA
THE SEVENTY COMMISSIONED [Border country of Galilee and Samaria]
| LUKE 10 1 After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two before his face into every city and place, where he himself would come. 2Therefore he said to them, The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few: pray you therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth laborers into his harvest. 3Go your ways: behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves. 4Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way. 5And into what ever house you enter, first say, Peace be to this house. 6And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest on it: if not, it shall turn to you again. 7And remain in the same house, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the laborer is worthy of his hire. Do not go from house to house. 8And into what ever city you enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you: 9And heal the sick that are there, and say to them, The kingdom of God is come near to you. 10But into what ever city you enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say, 11Even the very dust of your city, which cleaves on us, we wipe off against you: but be sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come near to you. 12But I say to you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city. 13Woe to you, Chorazin! woe to you, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they would have repented a great while ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. 14But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you.15And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, shall be thrust down to hell. 16He who hears you hears me; and he who despises you despises me; and he who despises me despises him who sent me. |
THE SEVENTY RETURN
| LUKE 10 17And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subject to us through your name. 18And he said to them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.19Behold, I give to you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. 20But do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

JUDAEA
THE GOOD SAMARITAN [In the vicinity of Jerusalem]
| LUKE 10 25And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? 26 He said to him, What is written in the law? how do you read? 27And he answering said, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself. 28And he said to him, You have answered right: this do, and you shall live. 29But he, willing to justify himself, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbor? 30And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. 31And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked at him, and passed by on the other side. 33But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, 34And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two danaria, and gave them to the host, and said to him, Take care of him; and what ever you spend more, when I come again, I will repay you. 36Which now of these three, do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves? 37And he said, He who showed mercy on him. Then said Jesus to him, Go, and do likewise. |
GUESTS OF MARTHA AND MARY [Bethany]
| LUKE 10 38Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. 39And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word. 40But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. 41And Jesus answered and said to her, Martha, Martha, you are careful and troubled about many things: 42But one thing is needful: and Mary has chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. |
THE DISCIPLES ARE TAUGHT HOW TO PRAY
| LUKE 11 1And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. 2a And he said to them, |
| LUKE 11 2b When you pray, say, Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be your name. your kingdom come. your will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.3Give us day by day our daily bread. 4And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one who is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. |
Matthew
6 [Similar topic] 9Therefore pray after this manner: Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed is your name. 10Your kingdom come. your will be done in earth, as in heaven. 11Give us this day our daily bread. 12And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. |
| LUKE 11 5And he said to them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go to him at midnight, and say to him, Friend, lend me three loaves; 6For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him? 7And he from within shall answer and say, Do not trouble me: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give to you. 8I say to you, Though he will not rise and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give to him as many as he needs. 9And I say to you, Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you. 10For every one who asks receives; and he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks it shall be opened. 11If a son shall ask bread of any of you who is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he asks a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? 12Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him? |
THE MAN BORN BLIND CURED
| JOHN 9 1And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man who was blind from his birth. 2And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who sinned, this man, or his parents, so that he was born blind? 3Jesus answered, Neither has this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. 4I must work the works of him who sent me, while it is day: the night comes, when no man can work. 5As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. 6When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, 7And said to him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which by interpretation is, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.

The Winter Festival of Dedication.
| JOHN 10 22And it was in Jerusalem at the feast of the dedication, and it was winter. 23And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon's porch. 24Then the Jews came round about him, and said to him, How long do you make us doubt? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly. 25Jesus answered them, I told you, and you did not believed: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me. 26But you do not believe because you are not of my sheep, as I said to you. 27My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28And I give to them eternal life; and they should never perish, neither will any man snatch them out of my hand. 29My Father, who gave them to me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. 30I and my Father are one. 31Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. 32Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shown to you from my Father; for which of those works do you stone me? 33The Jews answered him, saying, We do not stone you for a good work; but for blasphemy; and because you, being a man, make yourself God. 34Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, You are gods? 35If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; 36Do you say of him, whom the Father has sanctified, and sent into the world, You blaspheme, because I said, I am the Son of God? 37If I do not the works of my Father, do not believe me. 38But if I do, though you do not believe me, believe the works: so that you may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.

LAZARUS RAISED FROM THE DEAD
| JOHN 11 1Now a certain man, Lazarus of Bethany, was sick, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. 2 (It was that Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.) 3Therefore his sisters sent to him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom you love is sick. 4When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not to death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified by it. 5Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus. 6When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was. 7Then after that he said to his disciples, Let us go into Judea again. 8His disciples said to him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone you; and will you go there again? 9Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. 10But if a man walk in the night, he stumbles, because there is no light in him. 11These things he said: and after that he said to them, Our friend Lazarus sleeps; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. 12Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleeps, he shall do well. 13But Jesus spoke of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking rest in sleep. 14Then Jesus said to them plainly, Lazarus is dead. 15And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent you may believe; nevertheless let us go to him. 16Then said Thomas, who is called Didymus, to his fellow disciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.

THE LORD WITHDRAWS TO EPHRAIM
| JOHN 11 47Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, What shall we do? for this man does many miracles. 48If we let him thus alone, all men will believe in him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation. 49And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said to them, You know nothing at all, 50Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation does not perish. 51And this he spoke not from himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation; 52And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God who are scattered abroad. 53Then from that day forth they took counsel together to put him to death. 54Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went from there to a country near the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there he continued with his disciples. |
