Words spoken by the Lord Jesus' on what is defiling.
Food is not haram. It is evil thoughts that are haram and when we say them they make us despicable - unfit for decent company:
The Lord Jesus called the crowd, and said to them, "Listen, and understand. It is not what goes in the mouth makes a man despicable; but what comes out of the mouth, that makes a man despicable." Then his disciples came and said to him, "Do you not know that the #Pharisees were upset, after they heard that remark?" So he answered and said, "Every plant, which my heavenly Father has not planted, will be rooted up. Leave them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into the ditch." Then Peter responded to him saying, "Explain to us that parable". To which Jesus said, "Do you still have no understanding? Do you not understand yet that what ever enters in through the mouth goes into the bowels and is discharged into the toilet? But those things which proceed out of the mouth emanate from the heart; and those make the man despicable. Because out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. These are the things which make a man despicable, but to eat without washing ones hands does not make a man despicable." [Matthew 15:10-20. #The Pharisees were a very strict Jewish religious sect.]
We will be judged for every spoken word:
The Lord Jesus said: "A good man produces good things out of the good treasure of the heart and an evil man produces evil things out of the evil treasure. So I am telling you that men will give account of every idle word that they speak on the day of judgment. Because you will be justified by your words and you will be condemned by your words. [Matthew 12:35-37]
Words written by the Apostle Paul about what is defiling.
All the earth, its produce and the animals are good belong to God:
Eat whatever is sold in the bazaar, eat, asking no questions for the sake of conscience, because the earth and its fulness is the LORD's." [1.Corinthians 10:25]
All God's animals are good. We should thank God before we eat:
" ... every one of God's creatures is good, and nothing should be refused, if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is made holy by the God's word and by prayer. [1.Timothy 4:4-5]
But even though all food is clean if we eat something we think is haram then we are sinning because we are wilfully doing something we think is wrong:
"I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him who thinks any thing is unclean, to him it is unclean ..." [Romans 14:14]
* "HARAM" is an Arabic word meaning forbidden because it is defiling. Usually used of forbidden food
